Eastern Pines Fire-Rescue-EMS has never charged for service, rather we chose to rely on our tax district and fund raising to generate the revenue needed to operate. This system worked wonderfully for 20 years, but was discontinued by Pitt County in favor of alternate funding measures. Beginning January 1, 2002, all patients transported by county units are billed by the county (not the individual stations) for the service. Revenue collected from billing is placed into a central EMS budget, not into the budgets of the squads that actually provided the service. Funding is also generated from a county-wide EMS tax on property. As with billing, revenue collected from the tax is placed into the central EMS budget, not into the budgets of the squads serving the districts that the tax dollars actually came from. The individual squads then must submit budgets annually and try to vie for a share of the revenue generated by the billing collection and the tax.
Billing questions are to be directed to Lynn Coggins, with the Pitt County Office of Emergency Services. She may be contacted by phone at 252-902-3020. If you have you received a bill and have a question about that bill, please contact her directly. Please do not contact our station about a bill, as our members and staff have absolutely nothing to do with any part of the billing process, and are therefore unable to answer any questions.
NEED A COPY OF YOUR BILL OR CHART? Eastern Pines Fire-Rescue-EMS does not provide copies of bills or patient charts. If you need a copy of either for insurance or legal purposes, please contact Lynn Coggins, with the Pitt County Office of Emergency Services at 252-902-3020. Please do not write or otherwise request a copy of these documents from us, as we are unable to provide them directly to you.
The 20+ year tradition of the Eastern Pines Fire-Rescue Semi-Annual Barbeque sales are operated by the Eastern Pines Fire-Rescue Foundation. These fundraisers continue due to the fact that the budget allocation from the county does not allow all the needs of the squad to be funded to the extent that you, our citizens deserve. It is important that you continue to support us in May and November so that we can continue to provide advanced training and equipment for our members. Supporting us helps us continue to provide you with superior patient care; please come visit us on the first Saturday of each May and November!
